Carole Katchen

Carole Katchen has been a successful and prolific artist and writer from a very young age. In fact, she was an established freelance magazine writer by the time she turned 21. A year later, she had written and illustrated her first children’s book titled, I Was a Lonely Teen-Ager; it sold more than 700,000 copies. And, although Carole had decided to follow the path of an artist by her mid-20s, she would continue to write throughout her career.
Carole’s artistic endeavors have taken her around the globe, from her home state of Colorado to Africa, China, Peru and beyond. Her favorite painting subjects have always been people from all walks of life, such as chefs, musicians, dancers, women of means—even an oil rig roughneck. She believes in creating unforgettable characters, moments and stories with her paintings.
Her work, praised for its strong sense of design, has been featured in art galleries throughout the U.S. and on magazine covers. One of her paintings is in the collection of former President Bill and Senator Hillary Clinton. Always searching for new forms of artistic expression, Carole started producing bronze sculptures of the figures that people her paintings about eight years ago.
In addition to her artwork, Carole has authored 17 books on topics ranging from figure drawing to promoting and selling your art. She has a heartfelt passion for sharing her knowledge of art with others. Recently, Carole spent time in Taiwan and China, painting members of the Taiwanese National Opera and lecturing at the University of Shanghai.
